Our School

Established in 1961 by Bethesda United Methodist Church (BUMC) as a service to church members and the local community, Wesley Nursery School (WNS) offers half-day programs for 2- through 4-year-olds. Wesley offers an opportunity for each child to develop as an individual and as a member of a larger community. Our staff strives to promote a loving environment encompassing trust, character development and the value of diversity.

The school offers additional programs before and after regular program hours. Wesley is governed by the Wesley Nursery School Board. WNS is certified by the Maryland State Board of Education.

Our Staff

Wesley’s outstanding teachers have been the strength of our program for over 45 years. Our teachers hold a four-year degree, or its equivalent, and as professionals continue to participate in training and stay current with the latest developments in preschool education.

The adult-to-student ratio is at least 1-to-5 in the 2s and 3s classes, and at least 1-to-8 in the 4s classes. Those parents who elect to co-op do so on a regularly scheduled basis. They support the staff to carry out the daily schedule of activities. The 2s program does not offer the opportunity to co-op.

Our Philosophy

We promote the emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual and physical development of each child by using play-based age-appropriate curricula that is neither regimented nor highly structured. Teachers provide guidance and love throughout their daily schedule of activities.

During the year, family members are invited to school to participate in school celebrations.
