The ministry of BUMC extends beyond our walls into the local, national and international community. Service is a very important part of how we live out our faith. We believe that our mission to "Wash More Feet" compels us to serve those in need and to work for social justice. Learn more about many of the organizations that the Outreach Committee supports.

On a National level, BUMC is very involved with the United Methodist Church's Volunteers in Mission (VIM) Program.  Some activities include: include:

  • A VIM team is headed to Slidell, LA in March 2006 to help with rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina.
  • Our Youth participate in Work Camp every summer. In June and July 2006, they are headed to Oak Hill, West Virginia and New Orleans.
  • Sending a VIM team to Puerto Rico to help with the construction of a United Methodist Women's retreat center in 2000.
  • Sending a VIM team to eastern North Carolina to assist with flood relief after Hurricane Floyd in 2001.
  • Providing financial support to the Red Bird Missionary Conference of the United Methodist Church in the Appalachian region.
  • Supporting the Children's Defense Fund and participating in their annual Children's Sabbath Program each October.
  • Actively participating in Methodists United for Peace with Justice.
