Who We Are

The BUMC Men's Fellowship Group is a network of men who share faith and fellowship in a variety of settings.  Our purpose is to provide a place for meaningful relationships, support, conversation, and mutual encouragement.  The group is fluid - it's almost always a different combination of people from one gathering to the next - and members range in age from the 20's to the 60's, with the core of the group being somewhere in the middle.  The atmosphere is positive, the camaraderie is great, and our flexible schedule means that there is a way for anyone to fit in.

How to Get Involved

You are welcome to attend any of our gatherings - all you need to do is show up!  We have regular listings of upcoming group meetings in the bulletin and the newsletter.  This is a great group to check out, especially if you are new to the church and looking to make some connections.  You have an open invitation to join us and we make an effort to make everyone feel welcome.

When We Meet

The name is a little misleading, because we do not always meet in the morning.  We primarily meet at two different times each month - one early, one late - to fit the variety of schedules and personalities within the group.

First Wednesday of the Month: We meet at the Old Georgetown Grill (Old Georgetown Rd. & Arlington Rd.) for breakfast from 6:30 - 7:30 a.m.  In addition to enjoying the good old-fashioned cholesterol-raising platters of pancakes, bacon, and eggs, we spend about half an hour in Bible study or taking up a topic of faith (a short article).  It's a great way to start your day and put faith on your radar screen throughout.

Third Wednesday of the Month: This is our evening meeting (9:00-10:30 p.m.) that moves around to different group members' homes.  Light refreshments are served and the conversation centers around a book that we have been reading together (though people still come who haven't read the book for the discussion and fellowship).  Recent selections have included: The Cost of Discipleship, Blue Like Jazz, Mere Christianity, Season of Life, and Messy Spirituality.

Annual  Retreat

We take an annual retreat together for golf, tennis, volleyball, time on the beach, and spiritual discussion (there's a bit of a program to go with all the fun stuff!).  In late spring we spent a long weekend together at Fenwick Island.  Contact Jeff Diamond if you'd like to find out more about our retreat ministry.

Other

An annual Memorial Day Cookout at Rev. Ron's for group members and their families (last year we had over 100 children & adults) has become a Men's group tradition.  We also regularly take on service projects at the church (painting, clean-up, fix-up).  If you are athletically inclined, we rent a gym for basketball (currently we are playing on Sunday nights -  contact Pat Kirwan for details).  There is also a group playing tennis on Tuesday nights.  Contact Neil Gregory for details.  In general, we just like hanging out together, and the relationships that are formed in our group seem to matter.
